The Problem
In 2012, Apple made a significant design change to their MagSafe power connector. The new MagSafe 2 connector was thinner and wider, designed for the slimmer MacBook Pro with Retina Display. But there was an unintended consequence: the connector became much easier to disconnect.
While the original MagSafe had a strong magnetic hold, MagSafe 2's flatter design meant it would pop off with the slightest tug or movement. MacBook users everywhere experienced their laptops unexpectedly switching to battery power, interrupting work sessions and gradually degrading battery life.
It was a frustrating problem that affected millions of MacBook users around the world.
The Solution
Ed Gogel and Jerry Kuo saw this problem firsthand and decided to solve it. In July 2013, they launched Snuglet on Kickstarter — a simple, elegant solution that adds extra magnetic strength to the MagSafe 2 connector without interfering with the safety disconnect feature.
The response was overwhelming. The campaign raised $27,583 from 1,367 backers, tripling the original $9,000 goal. MacBook users were eager for a solution to this everyday frustration.
The Snuglets were delivered ahead of schedule and received rave reviews from purchasers who immediately experienced the improved connection stability they had been seeking.
